An End of Life Celebration (EOLC) or a Celebration of Life is exactly as it states – a celebration of an individual’s life, recalling, celebrating, and sharing the magnitude of the life that was had.
No matter how short or long the life lived, and EOLC is most often held after the celebrated individual has passed, but can definitely be done as the – most often terminally ill – individual edges towards the end of their life. The EOLC can accompany a burial, what is considered a more traditional funeral, or can be held separately. Some families and cultures choose to have an EOLC on an anniversary of the deceased. For purpose of reference below, 621events will reference the celebrant as having passed.
Think of an EOLC as the reviewing and highlighting of a life well lived and loved, including the ups and downs. It can honestly be whatever you choose, but 621events often encourages capturing and sharing of memories and the embodiment of who the individual was and what made them as they were. Often choosing friends, family, and even work associates to share meaningful and thoughtful memories and stories. On the very base an EOLC is very much a party, a celebration, often with food and drink and in a convivial setting. To show, highlight, and celebrate all the wonderful parts of the recently deceased.
An EOLC can be any type of gathering you envision – as an example, if the recently deceased was a lifelong BBQer that thread can be woven into the event or can be the event itself. Perhaps they were a significant volunteer in the community, an EOLC can be had and donations may be requested to go to a representative charity. There are so many wonderful and special ways to celebrate a person.
